Blog > “Local Gems” Series: Buda
We would like to introduce our new blog series! “Local Gems” will be focusing on local favorites from greater Austin, featuring a new town each week. Comment local favorites from your town and we’ll try to write about it!
Buda, located just a half-hour south of downtown Austin, is known as the “Outdoor Capital of Texas.” It has the unique distinction of having more parkland per capita than any other town in the state. You can always find Buda locals soaking up the beautiful central Texas weather.
1. Jackson Tyler Norris Memorial Skate Park
This awesome skate park is dedicated to deceased local skater Jackson Tyler Norris. The seven people who received Norris’s organs are celebrated by seven wall etching at the park, and seven newly planted trees. You’ll find Buda’s newest skaters and its pros all poppin’ off some sick tricks.
2. Historic Downtown Buda
Go to Historic Downtown Buda for its great architecture and history. All the town’s best bakeries, boutiques, bars, and restaurants are located along Main Street. Every first Thursday of the month, the Buda Downtown Merchants Group hosts a free walkthrough event of all the specialty shops and galleries in Downtown, with live music!
3. Local Wineries and Vineyards
Buda is the second fastest growing wine destination in the United States. It is home to several great wineries. Hit the biggest three wineries for a wide variety of grapes ranging from Mediterranean to Texan varieties.
4. Buda Soda Fountain
Go back in time to 1940’s America at the Buda Drug Store and Soda Fountain. Locals enjoy old-fashioned malts, shakes, and candy. The shop’s main feature is an antique soda fountain. If ice cream and soda are unappealing to you, they also have a coffee bar and bakery.
5. Cleveland’s
This local cajun and burger joint is a favorite hangout of the locals. As the ultimate neighborhood restaurant, Cleveland’s features a wide-ranging menu, a comfy patio, and live music performances.
