Blog > Day Trips for Austinites: Fredericksburg

If you’re looking for a vacation not too far from home, we suggest taking a trip over to beautiful Fredericksburg, Texas. It’s about a two hour drive, which can be perfect for a day trip if you’re not looking to stay overnight. Fredericksburg is a popular city mostly known by people for their Wine Country but it’s also known for their Pacific War Museum and Enchanted Rock State Area. So, depending on what you’re interested in, we’ve combined a list of fun things to do for singles, couples and families!
Wine Tours/Tastings
If you’re not looking to stay overnight and you’re going to a Wine Tasting, we HIGHLY recommend getting a shuttle/bus that is exclusively known for their trips to Fredericksburg and back to Austin. There are many options for groups or for yourself!
First off, is Signor Vineyards. Signor is famous for their world-class wine, French country gardens, and farmhouse shopping at Joanna’s Market. They do NOT require reservations for wine tastings but it is first-come first-serve so make sure to get there early with your group or if you’re going solo. They have 200 acres of breathtaking land you can explore and if you get hungry a charcuterie board and limited menu is available.
Our next recommendation is Barons Creek Vineyards. Barons Creek has multiple locations but we suggest going with the Frederiksberg location for the ultimate experience. Once you arrive, check in for your Wine Tasting reservation where you’ll indulge in Barons Creek Finest wines that won the 2020 Lone Star International Wine Competition.
Afterward, check into your LUXURIOUS Villa located right on the property! The Luxurious Suites at Hill County Winery is the ultimate experience for wine lovers. It can be a romantic getaway or perfect girls weekend.
Airbnb Getaway
Have you ever stayed in a Treehouse? No? Well now you can! The Live Oak Treehouse at HoneyTree Farm has become such a popular place to stay in Fredericksburg. With over 250 reviews and a consistent 5 star rating, the owner Jacob has created an enchanted bungalow for you to enjoy. There’s a relaxing hammock where you can snuggle up and enjoy a nap, a huge window to look outside and read a book and after take a bath outdoors in the private candle-lit tub. This Treehouse has become so popular, we recommend booking in advance!
Family Vacation/Day Trip in Downtown Fredericksburg
Start your day off at the Java Ranch Espresso Bar & Cafe where parents can grab a cup of coffee and breakfast for the family. After filling up, head over to Old Thyme Fun Shop where you can grab some trinkets and souvenirs to take back home. Old Tyme Fun Shop is a town favorite and a must see when visiting. Later on, enjoy a delicious meal and drink at Hondo’s On Main. Known for their delicious BBQ/Tex-Mex cuisine accompanied by live music and a full bar for the parents! After dinner or maybe as an early treat, stop by Clear River Ice Cream and Bakery and get some delicious desserts. It definitely beats anything you’ve ever had. The kids will agree! Lastly, the next day or if you’re going for just the afternoon, stop by Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park. The kids will love it and it’s also a great opportunity to sneak in a History lesson. We hope you enjoyed this list and things to do in Fredericksburg and if you do decide to take a trip over, let us know on our Instagram or Facebook what you did and how it was. We would love to know!
