Blog > Things to Do in Austin: Walking Ghost Tour
If you’re looking for something unique and spooky to do this Halloween, why not check out a Walking Ghost Tour of Austin?
A few members of the Pure Realty staff tried it out, and it definitely earns our stamp of approval!
*Note: Walking Tours of Austin is diligent about offering sanitizer, encouraging social distancing, and wearing masks. Customer safety is the top priority!
MEET THE GUIDE
To start the tour off, we met our tour guide at Jo’s Coffee on Second Street. There we met our tour guide and went over safety protocols.
Our guide was a young woman from England, who was obsessed with the paranormal. She was cheery and knowledgeable of the area.
TAKE IN AUSTIN HISTORY
Even if you’re not a paranormal buff, there is still a lot to learn about the area.
We started at the old train depot, learning about the history of Austin’s founding along the Colorado River and how to new train stop changed everything for this city.
From there you hit the high points of downtown Austin: South Congress, the Paramount Theater, the Speakeasy, Sixth Street, and the iconic Driskill Hotel.
Along the way, and at each destination, your guide will tell you about the history of the building, how it was critical to the growth of the city, and of course, who might still be inside.
LEARN AUSTIN’S MACABRE PAST
As you learn about the crazy hauntings and unbelievable witnesses’ stories, the tour guide walks you through the fact and fiction. You learn about the death of a senator’s little girl, a deadly fire, and of course, the Servant Girl Annihilator, who just might be Jack the Ripper!
We hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween!
