Blog > “Local Gems” Series: Dripping Springs
We would like to introduce our new blog series! “Local Gems” will be focusing on local favorites from greater Austin, featuring a new town each week. Comment local favorites from your town and we’ll try to write about it!
Known as the “Gateway to the Hill Country,” Dripping Springs is home to 30,000 fun-loving Texans. It is also home to 30 wedding venues within a 15 mile radius, making it the “Wedding Capital of Texas” as well. There is also an abundance of wineries, breweries, and distilleries. There are so many little gems in this town, we had a hard time even deciding what to feature!
1. Hamilton Pool
Hamilton Pool is an extraordinary swimming hole in Dripping Springs. You can find Texans from all over the hill country basking in the sun’s rays on the ledges of the pool. Also, the hiking trail offers an amazing view of the 45 foot waterfall that empties into the pool. Make sure to get reservations before having a blast, because the park can fill up fast during the peak seasons!
2. The Salt Lick
An icon of barbecue, The Salt Lick is beloved by all of Central Texas. They’ve been making barbecue the traditional way for three-generations. The Salt Lick is still family-owned, a characteristic that is reflected in its family-style menu and atmosphere. If Central Texas has a soul, it probably tastes like The Salt Lick.
3. Pedernales Falls State Park
Any Texan can make a great weekend trip to Pedernales Falls State Park, but the folks in Dripping Springs can just stop on by this natural beauty. Aside from being beautiful, the park offers activities for all levels of adventure. Whether you would rather “glamp” or rough it, this park can accommodate both.
4. Crepe Crazy
This culinary experience is definitely a gem. They serve breakfast until two everyday, with sweet and hearty options. The rest of the day, crepe lovers can order off the sweet or savory menu. Definitely try the S’Mores Crepe and the Peanut Butter Heaven.
5. Hays City Store
Far from just a store, Hays City Store is an awesome local restaurant and bar. They serve tasty dishes brunch through dinner and offer great cocktails, beer, and wine. This “store” is best know for its amazing patio featuring outdoor dining, fire pits, games, and live music set in their beer garden.
Let me know what you think in comments! Next week, we will be featuring Lago Vista so please tell us your fave spots!
