We’re already into August, which means school is right around the corner. Whether it’s online or in-person it makes no difference; the fact is, the kids will be back to business one way or another.
It’s time to pack in all the summer fun you can into the weeks remaining before the fall semester. Here’s a list of some local swimming spots that are open for business.
Note: Please check with the individual places of business for the most current COVID-19 guidelines. Adhere to the precautions put in place by these businesses as well as the CDC, and remember, if you feel sick, stay home!
REIMER’S RANCH PARK | DRIPPING SPRINGS
Reimer’s Ranch is located west of Austin deep in the Hill Country. For $5 per person (cash only), you can enjoy the cool blue waters of the Pedernales River. There are plenty of spots throughout the park, from shallow splash areas along the beach to deep waters upriver for the more experienced swimmers. The park is also dog-friendly, so you can bring the pup!
KRAUSE SPRINGS | SPICEWOOD
Also located about 30 miles west of Austin is the historic Krause Springs. This 100+ acre park has 32 springs you can enjoy, along with plenty of walking and camping areas. One of the unique highlights of Krause Springs is Butterfly Gardens. This garden is teeming with flowers, elegant potted plants, and musical wind chimes.
MCKINNEY FALLS STATE PARK | AUSTIN
While state parks currently require reservations, it’s worth checking to see if you can swing a trip to McKinney Falls State Park. It’s located inside the Austin City Limits, just south of downtown off of U.S. Highway 183. Enjoy swimming, hiking, and plenty of nature watching!
LAKE TRAVIS | AUSTIN
One of Austin’s most treasured spots, Lake Travis is the perfect way to cool off. From Pace Bend Park in Spicewood to the numerous parks in Lakeway, even up around the lake in Volente, there’s always a place to soak up sun and take a dip in the lake! Check out the hours and guidelines for the different parks before heading out there.
LAKE GEORGETOWN | GEORGETOWN
Lake Georgetown is a reservoir off the San Gabriel River in Williamson County. There are three main parks you can access the lake from: Cedar Breaks Park, Jim Hogg Park, and Russell Park. These spots also have boat access, so if you have the means, you can head out on the water for more of a summer experience!
