“Local Gems” Series: Liberty Hill
We would like to introduce our new blog series! “Local Gems” will be focusing on local favorites from greater Austin, featuring a new town each week. Comment local favorites from your town and we’ll try to write about it!
1.Harvest Ranch
In Liberty Hill, along the ranch road, is the “The Harvest Ranch Chuckwagon and Dinner Show.” This dinner show is truly like nothing else in the Austin area, it features good ‘ol “chuckwagon” cuisine and western jams from “The Booher Kids.” Finally, the night will be finished with a rodeo show! The 2017 season at Harvest Ranch begins April 1st, so get tickets here.
2. Best of the West Shooting Sports
This Texas shooting range and paintball center is fun for everyone. With pistols and rifles available for two-hour rentals, anyone can learn how to shoot ’em up. And, if real ammo isn’t your thing, paintball is also available.
3. Liberty Hill Bakery & Cafe
Liberty Hill Bakery & Cafe is a one-stop shop for Liberty Hill’s culinary needs with a dining room, curbside service, and catering available. They are committed to “from-scratch” breakfast, lunch, and dinner items. From classics like biscuits and gravy to more exciting items like the black-bean falafel, Liberty Hill Bakery & Cafe offers a little bit of everything.
4. Red Brick Java
Despite its name, Red Brick Java is actually known for its Hawaiian Ice as much, if not more so, than for it’s coffee. Red Brick specializes in tasty specialty drinks that are the sweet tooth antidote of Liberty Hill residents. This local business is a community treasure and local gem.13
5. Dahlia Cafe
At Dahlia Cafe, they describe the menu as “dressed up” country cooking. Dahlia offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a casual, fun environment. While there is ample indoor seating, most patrons go to Dahlia for its eclectic and groovy patio. On weekends you’ll find all the coolest kids in Liberty Hill listening to local live music under Dahlia Cafe’s shady trees.

“Local Gems” Series: Buda
We would like to introduce our new blog series! “Local Gems” will be focusing on local favorites from greater Austin, featuring a new town each week. Comment local favorites from your town and we’ll try to write about it!
Buda, located just a half-hour south of downtown Austin, is known as the “Outdoor Capital of Texas.” It has the unique distinction of having more parkland per capita than any other town in the state. You can always find Buda locals soaking up the beautiful central Texas weather.
1. Jackson Tyler Norris Memorial Skate Park
This awesome skate park is dedicated to deceased local skater Jackson Tyler Norris. The seven people who received Norris’s organs are celebrated by seven wall etching at the park, and seven newly planted trees. You’ll find Buda’s newest skaters and its pros all poppin’ off some sick tricks.
2. Historic Downtown Buda
Go to Historic Downtown Buda for its great architecture and history. All the town’s best bakeries, boutiques, bars, and restaurants are located along Main Street. Every first Thursday of the month, the Buda Downtown Merchants Group hosts a free walkthrough event of all the specialty shops and galleries in Downtown, with live music!
3. Local Wineries and Vineyards
Buda is the second fastest growing wine destination in the United States. It is home to several great wineries. Hit the biggest three wineries for a wide variety of grapes ranging from Mediterranean to Texan varieties.
4. Buda Soda Fountain
Go back in time to 1940’s America at the Buda Drug Store and Soda Fountain. Locals enjoy old-fashioned malts, shakes, and candy. The shop’s main feature is an antique soda fountain. If ice cream and soda are unappealing to you, they also have a coffee bar and bakery.
5. Cleveland’s
This local cajun and burger joint is a favorite hangout of the locals. As the ultimate neighborhood restaurant, Cleveland’s features a wide-ranging menu, a comfy patio, and live music performances.

“Local Gems” Series: West Lake Hills
We would like to introduce our new blog series! “Local Gems” will be focusing on local favorites from greater Austin, featuring a new town each week. Comment local favorites from your town in the comments and we’ll try to write about it!
While many people are under the impression that “Westlake” is just an Austin neighborhood, it’s actually it’s own city dubbed West Lake Hills. West Lake Hills residents can always be found hiking, biking, paddle-boarding, or just eating great food. You’ll find some of Austin’s original residents tucked in and around this towns rolling hills. Since West Lake Hills is a treasure trove of Austin culture, narrowing down the list of “local gems” was a real challenge.
1. Zilker Park
Nothing says “I love Austin” quite like a day at Zilker Park. With a dog-friendly lawn and skyline view, Zilker is always the perfect place to just chill. In addition, they offer canoe and kayak rentals. Zilker may be best none for hosting many big Austin events, like the Austin City Limits music festival and the Trail of Lights. Zilker Park has something for every type of Austinite.
2. Austin Nature & Science Center
The Austin Nature and Science Center combines exhibits with hands-on learning for the whole family. The new “Nano” interactive exhibit aims to explain the basics of nano technology to families. Also, the dino pit and wildlife exhibits are as fun as ever. The Center also offers kids’ camps for curious little minds.
3. Mount Bonnell
The short hike up Mt. Bonnell is a must for all Austinites. Starting with the scenic drive there, Mt. Bonnell offers a great view of all of Austin’s natural beauty. The view from the top of Mt. Bonnell showcases the lake and surrounding hill country like nowhere else.
4. Barton Springs Pool
This natural spring pool never costs more than three dollars for Austin residents to swim in all day. A city staple, you can find Austinites from all walk of life hanging out on the grassy banks of the pool and splish-splashing with their pals. Barton Springs Pool is definitely the best place to beat the heat.
5. The Midway Food Park
Located right off of 360, this food park is a must for any Austin resident. Dessert trucks, vegan trucks, BBQ trucks, and even Thai, Midway really does have it all. A long-time resident of Midway, “Dock and Roll” may have the best Shrimp Po’ Boy in Austin. The best part about Midway is that it has all the fun of food trucks without the normal inconveniences. Basically, the park is just a circle of tasty food trucks with a large sitting area in the middle and a large on-site parking lot. Midway is the perfect place for anyone who enjoys Austin scenery, good food, and live music.
